Reflection paragraph on sources

For my subject, it was easy to get statics and to find many personal responses to this subject. I really enjoyed looking up stories, even though they would always end with me gaping like a drowning fish, they really made me realize what a problem bullying in schools is. I did not stick with just one source because there were so many different ones and lots of different statics on different kinds of bullying so it was hard just sticking to school bullying; I think that this will hit kids hard and when they see everything that I have, then maybe something more will be done. One site that I recommend is http://bullyingstatistics.blogspot.com/. This is a blog like mine, but not for a grade, this mostly focuses on facts and figures and does not answer any questions. I would love to do something like this again and I highly recommend doing a blog for any kind of subject you would like to learn more about or if you want to get your word out about something.

Reflection paragraph on process

The process for my research project was long and drawn out but I think it was fun. The dead lines were, well dead, they made me feel a little stressed but since I liked this topic I didn’t think it was that bad. I loved using the vocabulary words in my paper that had to be the best part! We would learn a new set of words and than we would go work on our blog and bam a new way to express ourselves! Of course this project was formidable but it was easier that we got to pick a topic that we would either like to learn more about or have a passion for. I learned a lot form this project and I got to exercise the comma, semi colon, and even the colon. This helped me more than any test or quiz would. I have to be able to apply something rather than just memorize it for a test, it will also help me better in life because you can easily forget something but when you do something like a blog it sticks with you, or me anyway. If I was to do something like this again I would!

Reflection paragraph on findings

Bullying is a wide subject and I had to narrow it down to school bullying, what I found was very surprising. I never expected that kids were being bullied so much and so potent that when I started to dig up the information I was horrified that no one has done anything about what the schools are doing! Bullying seems to be impervious to schools; I mean what sane person would ignore a child in need of help? Some oldies think hey it’s just kids being kids but it’s not; kids are killing themselves, no kids are murdering other kids with words. This is anything but kids being kids, what don’t the schools get is beyond me. I think that everyone should see these facts and I’m glad that I have made a blog on this subject.

Do we have a bully awarness month?

Bird-Feeding Month, Clean Up Your Computer Month, Library Lovers' Month, Mend a Broken Heart Month, Sweet Potato Month, Sing with Your Child Month, Tie Month, Sarcastic Awareness Month, and Dyslexia Awareness Month. These are just some on the National awareness months there are myriad of others. Aren't they silly? There is in fact a bully awareness month, do you know when it is? October! Does your school do anything for bully awareness month? Mine does not, how can you increase awareness about bullying without having a whole month dedicated to it! I have never heard of a bully awareness month before I did this research. What I do not understand is why schools do anything for this month? If bullying is such a problem than why don’t we teach it or shine a light on it? One answer to this is the schools say they have antipathy toward bullying but they really do not or the cases of bullying would be as rare as their zero tolerance to weapons in school. Many families who go through the bad cases of bullying do not know what to do, so they go to the school and report it. I remember in middle school that every year for drug awareness month we would do different activities every week and we learn new and different things. Why can't we do the same for bullying, would it not make sense if the schools did this too.

When do we draw the line?

Where do schools, parents, and kids draw the line between bullying and murder?
Everyone has heard of kids who get bullyed so often and it is so potent that the victum kills him or her self. Bullying is a formidable problem that kids go through everyday; what is sad is that most kids are not as impervious to this as we think they are. The line that the school draws for bullying is when the kid does something rash spontainous that the school MUST act. Where the line is currently is not acceptible "I'll fight bullying wherever it's found. Schools. Workplace. I'm not going to quit until bullying does."(Smalley) This man was a father, he had a kid who was bullied to death. Why does it take people this long to realize that something has to be done to stop this; but the problem people have is where to stop it. Stop it at a young age don't wait until they "can understand" because by then its too late. Stop it when they are in kindgergarden and keep teaching it to them even in middle school. "Concentration, like other abilities, is something that develops as people age. It is defined by the ability to direct the mind to one single thought or task."(concentration exercises for kids) This is how you stick it in their minds, when you feel ambivalent to all other ways to fix this, remember that if you start to teach something at a young age and keep teaching it to them as they grow older then it will stick with them.

Wordle

Wordle: Untitled

Why do kids bully? Why is it so worng that kids, at such a young age, feel the need to be superior to other classmates?

Why do kids bully? There are myriad reasons that bullying is still around, for one many apathetic people just say that kids need to learn their place and by going through it; bullying is just a stage in life that they need to pass by themselves. But time has changed, and with it there comes a new generation with new ideas and new plans for bullying. "Have parents not talked to their kids about bullying others?"(Davis) This is what my problem is why parents don't talk to their kids about a problem that is so wide-spread and so hard to beat is beyond me. I know that my parents never sat me down and told me about this, maybe that's why it took me so long that after I was still afraid to be myself and to be who I am. Thanks to Early College I feel like me again! Sometimes I still feel antipathy to those people who still bully even though I'm not the one being bullied.

Quote for fun!

“My God! The English language is a form of communication! Conversation isn't just crossfire where you shoot and get shot at! Where you've got to duck for your life and aim to kill! Words aren't only bombs and bullets / no, they're little gifts, containing meanings!” - Philips Roth

Words are stronger than actions; that is what this quote is screaming at me when i read it! When you need to find a way to express yourself, do not look any farther than words!

Quote, parapharse, and sumarize!

"person's a person, no matter how small."
— Dr. Seuss

Paraphrase: No matter what you are, or who you seem to be everyone should be treated with decency.

Summarize: To me this is saying that no matter what ethnicy, religion, background, or where ever your from people shouldn't judge or treat you any different than anyone else; or any different from what a basic human being should treat another.

Seuss, Theador. "Dr. Seuss quotes." Dr. Seuss quotes. Goodreads, n.d. Web. 16 Nov 2010.

Quote it, paraphrase it, and summarize it!

"Bullying is basically a form of intimidation or domination toward someone who is perceived as weaker. It is a way of getting what one wants through some sort of coercion or force." - Bullying-Statistics.org

Paraphrase: Bullying is a way to make kids feel better about themselves, they also keep it up because they like the feel of power of authority, no matter who it is over, and they don't know any better.

Summary: Why is it so wrong that kids, at such a young age, feel the need to be superior to other classmates? How can we pay for sex education but not for bullying education? This has been going on too long and it needs to stop, the way to make it stop starts with you.

Quote. Paraphase. and summary #3

"Have parents not talked to their kids about bullying others?- Debbie Davis
Paraphrase: Because parents do not talk to their kids about bullying and show them how to prevent it or help them take the right steps and support them, more and more kids are being bullied.
Summary: The lady who said this quote was interview and talked about the issue of bullying and how it doesn't just happen inside the schools walls; it happens when ever they feel like they can get away with it. Normally that's when no parents or adults are around.

Picture and summary #3

This picture says everything!! Not only does it say what it is but why, I think this is a good thing for kids to see when their young. Sometimes the problem is that kids aren't taught this when they are young or by anybody so they don't know its wrong.

Quote, summary, and paraphase #2

"But I don;t want to go among mad people," Alice remarked. "Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."-Lewis Carroll
This quote is from a famous book im sure all of you know. Lewis Carrol might just have been writing a book but to me he said a statement; there are many ways i can tie this in with bullying. One is that when Alice said " But I don't want to go among mad people," its almost everyones reaction when they get paired with someone they don't know, like or have heard bad things about. That is a form of bullying; you may not know it but when you leave someone out of a group or act like you don't even want to touch them with a ten foot pole, but that is a form of bullying. You are making that person feel bad about themselves like they aren't good enough for you to even work with them. Second, when that Cat says " Oh you can't help that we're all mad here. I'm mad and you're mad," to me the Cat is saying that no matter how much you don't like that person or what you hear you know that there is that same goodness in you as there is in that person that your working with. So next time you go to sit by your friends think of all the new friends you can make by not always sitting with them.

Paraphase: Even though people may seem a way at first if you really get the time to know someone than they will look diffrent all beacuse you see them in a diffrent light.

Bully Buster! Free! Picture and summary #2

#This was made by a girl who is eight years old for a poster contest. I love this picture because not only does it state the problem but also tells us what we can do to stop the conflicts. The weeds at the bottom say the following: Hate, rumors, hitting, and gossip. Those are like bullies, or what they do- what they represent- but the can says bully buster and is spraying "weed killer" which is also labeled respect, caring, cooperation, and friendship. I thought this was a good representation of what bullies are and is also filled with solutions.

What does this really mean? Picture #1

This picture says no bully zone these signs are normally posted outside of schools to show parents that this is a bully free zone. what they don't tell you about this sign is that it is only a free bully zone because they don't accept cases of bullying. They like to play the game where "boys will be boys" or "girls will be girls" but that is not the case anymore, nor has it ever been. That excuse will not be tolerated anymore, because now its not just the kids going up to the schools it the parents. Why have schools changed their standards and why don't they listen to the students anymore? Teachers are afraid of bad ratings, they don't want their school to look bad even if that means ignoring the kids. I know it sounds bad but that is because it is and something needs to be done about it because if the schools can not do anything or will not do anything to stop bullying then who will?

CNN Interview with a father who fights aganist bullying.

Quote, paraphase, and summary #1

"I'm not going to stop. I'll fight bullying wherever it's found. Schools. Workplace. I'm not going to quit until bullying does. I got no choice. ... I can't picture being able to turn on the news or open a newspaper, Miss Costello, and see that another child, another family has gone through what we have gone through and is living the nightmare we're living, without knowing I have done everything I possibly can to stop it from happening."- Kirt Smally

My Paraphrase:
To fight bullying doesn't mean you have to use your fist, the most powerful way to get your point across is through words. Words are peoples most powerful weapon; it can be used for good, protest or evil, bullying. Do you want to see another child or family go through this throughout the future? Do you want your kids to go through this?

My Summary of this
The man who said this was a father. His son killed himself because he was being bullied; it was almost like he was bullied to death. This is a tragic story but not only is it not the first it also not the last. Where can you draw the line? Many kids have died and many more are going to follow if we do not stop this now before it gets to far.

My Amazingly Awesome Wordle!!!

Wordle: Bullying

Preliminary links and descriptions

http://www.examiner.com/motherhood-in-colorado-springs/bullying-what-parents-should-know
This website first tells you about the statistics of bullying like every 7 minutes another kid gets bullyed. This is also a guide for parents like if they are put in this situtation what steps they should take. This site is good for the facts and the ideas and should be included in my paper/blog. A mother made this site to help other parents.

http://bullyingstatistics.blogspot.com/
I found another blog like mine but this had statistics on it. This blog also had a video about a boy who was bullyied into killing himself. This blog is older it is a 2007 blog but the video still made me cry. A husban made this blog after going through this with his son and wife, he made this to help people deal with what is happening and to let them know that their not alone.

http://www.bullyinginschools.com/Bullying-Prevention.html
I love this site! When I read the first sentence I was hooked this is what it says, "One of the reasons why bullying in schools continues to be widespread is because many schools actuallt turn a blind eye to the slightest report of such instances." I mean what a great way to start your point! This site has ads by google no name of who made it, nor when it was last up dated so this is not a relible sorce to use.

http://tvnz.co.nz/national-news/school-bullying-not-taken-seriously-report-2543662
This is a article published on Sunday March 15, 2009. This website also had ads but it was a news article, and of course they have to have a bunch of things going on at the same time.
