What can I learn about this subject?

What could I possibly learn from same gender bullying if I have already had my personal experiences? Well, I don’t know how to make it stop; I can’t control everyone and make them stop putting each other down. I can, however, raise awareness about this issue and then maybe people can work together to solve it.  See bullying is all about how everyone feels about themselves and how others make them feel, if you have a boy who has lots of friends and when he is with them he might bully because he feels the need to be cool in his group; but if you catch him alone and possibly with his girlfriend than he will, most likely, be nicer.

Why is this? Well when you’re with your friends are you content with just being nice and looking like a goody to shoes? No you want to stand out and be as crazy you can be.   I know when you read this you are probably in denial. Well but don’t be, you know it’s true, so instead of making up lies in your head see the truth. Think about yesterday, did you tell anyone something mean that you didn’t mean? Did you say a sarcastic comment and nobody got it? People can take those things as bullying. If you are on the other side of those comments than yes you will take it as that as being mean. Either, you sit at home thinking of a plan to get them back or, you let it go and think "hey maybe they were just joking." But people don’t normally do that though, they take what you say to heart and that brings down their self esteem which will result in a possibility of another bully. So I plan to learn how to better pervent this from happening.

What I know about my topic

Same gender bullying in the school is a touchy subject. The kids don’t report it, nor do they want to be bulled for telling. Research on school bullying has found higher prevalence rates in the United States than in other countries! And more people here are unaware of it! Most people wonder how they can be oblivious to something so big and hugely impacting to our youth. Since, the government is trying to look good and don’t want to tell the public everything about this subject, that they don’t report all cases unless they are really serious. It is all about the numbers and looking good rather than taking care of what needs to be done, to make this a better place for our kids. It was found that bullies have a low self esteem and that is why they bully others, to make themselves feel better. I have been on both sides of bullying; I have been the bully and the victim and I know that when you’re bulling others you feel powerful and in control and that nobody would dare mess with you. I have mostly been on the victim side though and know that it’s not fun and my convenidence has suffered because of that. But now I will never bully someone ever again, and I hope that nobody else will if they have been bullied before.

I chose this topic because bullying is a growing problem and really hits home when I think of kids my age getting picked on and bullied to the extent of killing them self’s or others. I used to get bullied too but I have a nice home to come home to so it wasn't bad nor the end of the world, but it did bring down my self esteem. I want to help get the word out about this and help stop this from happening in my kid’s future. I also picked this because it has just come up again as a case and is still fresh in people’s minds so if I can pervade the facts and the shocking words to help inspire people than that’s what I will do. I want to make a difference and this is one small step closer to what I can do.
